Gold, silver rates today, September 25: Gold prices remain below recent highs as Pitru Paksha begins
2 min read
On Friday, September 25, gold prices in India held steady, despite a recent downward trend from peak levels. Current market rates show 24-karat gold trading at approximately ₹1,51,580 per 10 grams, while 22-karat gold is priced near ₹1,38,948 per 10 grams. Meanwhile, silver is being quoted at roughly ₹2,34,040 per kg.
In the Mumbai market, retail data indicates that 24K gold is priced at about ₹1,51,410 per 10 grams and 22K gold is at ₹1,38,793 per 10 grams. Silver rates in the city are hovering around ₹2,33,810 per kg.
Market Correction in Gold Prices
Although some domestic markets saw a slight uptick on Friday, the precious metal has recently undergone a period of correction. Reports suggest that 24K gold prices have declined by nearly 5% over the last month, even though they remain significantly higher than the prices recorded a year ago.
Market experts suggest that the recent softening in gold prices is driven by a robust US dollar, rising US Treasury yields, and shifting expectations regarding US interest rate policies. Additionally, fluctuations in crude oil prices and global geopolitical tensions continue to play a significant role in determining precious metal values.
Is Pitru Paksha influencing the decline in gold?
Pitru Paksha is a sacred period dedicated to honoring and performing rituals for ancestors. Due to traditional customs, many households refrain from making significant new purchases, such as gold or jewelry, during this time.
However, there is no direct economic link between Pitru Paksha and the fluctuation of gold prices. Market movements are fundamentally driven by international bullion trends, currency fluctuations, interest rate changes, geopolitical stability, and domestic demand levels.
According to various Hindu calendars, Pitru Paksha 2026 is scheduled to begin on September 27, though some Shraddha observances may commence as early as September 26.
Current Silver Rates
Silver prices also remain high, with 999-purity silver trading at approximately ₹2.34 lakh per kg across the country on September 25. In Mumbai, the specific rate was noted at around ₹2,33,810 per kg.
Please note that gold and silver rates may fluctuate depending on the city and the jeweler. Consumers should also factor in GST, making charges, and other additional costs when finalizing a purchase.
