The domestic equity exchanges will remain shut this Friday to observe Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti.
Trading activity will be paused across every segment, including equities, derivatives, and the securities lending and borrowing (SLB) stream, on both the BSE and the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
The closure falls immediately before the weekend, meaning there will be no activity on domestic stock exchanges for three straight days — Friday, along with the usual Saturday and Sunday holidays.
Furthermore, trading on the BSE and NSE is scheduled to restart on Monday, October 5.
Per the official market holiday schedule, October features two trading breaks — October 2 for Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and October 20 for Dussehra. The other planned holidays for 2026 include Diwali-Balipratipada on November 10, Prakash Gurpurb on November 24, and Christmas on December 25.
Additionally, the Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) will also remain shut for both its morning and evening trading sessions.
On Thursday, the key equity benchmarks closed lower for the fourth straight session amid ongoing foreign fund outflows, rising bond yields, and a fresh increase in crude oil prices.
The Sensex finished 570.59 points, or 0.79 per cent, lower to end at 71,909.70. However, during the session, the leading index dropped as much as 1,187.41 points, or 1.63 per cent, to 71,292.88.
In a similar move, Nifty settled 198.50 points, or 0.88 per cent, lower at 22,421.95.
According to market specialists, the overall sentiment remains bearish, yet the sharply oversold RSI pointed toward a zone where a technical recovery may develop.
“The ability to hold above the breached April 2025 swing-low region will be crucial for stabilization, while persistent weakness below this area could maintain the broader downtrend,” according to them.
They also added that any recovery at this point would be closely examined for signs of durable buying rather than simply a short-term bounce.
