Seoul, Jan 11: South Korea’s science ministry announced Sunday that it has aligned its vision with Nvidia Corp. regarding the expedited establishment of a research center in the country.
During discussions in California Friday (U.S. time), Second Vice Science Minister Ryu Je-myung and Nvidia Executive Vice President Jay Puri explored collaborative frameworks, according to the Ministry of Science and ICT.
Officials agreed on the urgency to launch Nvidia’s R&D facility in South Korea and discussed strategic support for nurturing domestic artificial intelligence startups.
In related developments, tech conglomerate Naver revealed completion of the nation’s largest AI computing cluster, utilizing Nvidia’s next-generation B200 Blackwell GPUs.
The B200 4K Cluster provides world-class computing capabilities to advance Naver’s proprietary foundation models and expand AI implementation across industries, the company stated.
“This infrastructure represents a critical advancement in strengthening South Korea’s AI leadership and technological sovereignty,” said CEO Choi Soo-yeon.
The enhanced computing environment is engineered for high-efficiency parallel processing, delivering performance metrics rivaling global supercomputing benchmarks. Naver anticipates the system will accelerate AI model development twelvefold compared to previous capabilities.
Future initiatives include scaling multimodal AI training capabilities to process text, visual, auditory, and temporal data streams concurrently.
