Sensex rises 473 points, Nifty gains 134 points as markets snap 4-day losing streak

The Indian stock market ended Monday on a positive note, with benchmark indices breaking a four-day losing streak as global equities rose and investor risk appetite improved.
The Sensex gained 472.77 points, up 0.66 per cent, to close at 72,382.47, while the Nifty added 133.80 points, or 0.6 per cent, finishing at 22,555.75.
On the technical front, experts noted that the Nifty tested its broken weekly 200-SMA zone at 22,580–22,600 but closed below it.
Analysts said a sustained move above this band could extend the recovery toward 22,800, while rejection would keep 22,400 as the immediate support.
The rebound could extend if the Nifty closes above 22,600 with broader participation and Bank Nifty crosses 55,175. Failure to clear these levels, especially with renewed crude strength or a hawkish RBI outcome, could bring selling pressure back.
Market sentiment improved after global stocks rose on expectations that the US Federal Reserve may not pursue faster rate hikes, easing concerns that had weighed on equities recently.
Among Nifty constituents, ITC, BSE, and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles emerged as top gainers, aiding the market’s recovery.
The broader market joined the rally, with the Nifty MidCap index gaining 0.67 per cent and the Nifty SmallCap index rising 0.47 per cent.
Consumer-focused segments led gains sectorally. The Nifty Consumer Durables and Nifty FMCG indices outperformed the broader market as investors accumulated stocks in these sectors.
Healthcare-related counters lagged, with the Nifty Healthcare and Nifty Pharma indices ending as the weakest-performing sectoral gauges.
Market watchers noted the market is nearing an important juncture; a rebound is likely, but current risk-off sentiment may tempt investors to book profits until a fresh catalyst emerges.
Going ahead, analysts advised investors to focus on earnings visibility and accumulate selectively on declines rather than chase the rebound.
Meanwhile, the Rupee traded weak near 96.30, with markets turning cautious ahead of the RBI policy decision on Wednesday.
