The American Heart Association acknowledges Sri Ramakrishna Hospital in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu for its dedication to providing evidence‑based, high‑quality care to patients experiencing chest pain and heart attacks.

COIMBATORE, 27 June 2026: Sri Ramakrishna Hospital has earned the American Heart Association’s first Comprehensive Chest Pain Center certification in Tamil Nadu, acknowledging the organization’s status as the top nonprofit devoted to heart and brain health worldwide. This distinguished recognition highlights the hospital’s pivotal role in the national healthcare network, closing delays that prevent heart attack patients from getting swift, life‑saving care.

The certification was formally announced and unveiled today at a press conference hosted by Sri Ramakrishna Hospital. The event was led by Dr. Sundar Ramakrishnan, Managing Trustee, SNR Sons Charitable Trust, and was attended by Shri. C. V. Ramkumar, Chief Executive Officer, SNR Sons Charitable Trust; Shri. D. Maheshkumar, Chief Administrative Officer, SNR Sons Charitable Trust; and Dr. S. Rajagopal, Medical Director, Dr. S. Alagappan, Medical Superintendent, Sri Ramakrishna Hospital, together with senior consultants and specialists from the Department of Cardiology. The speakers emphasized the importance of this international accreditation and reiterated the hospital’s pledge to provide top‑tier cardiac care.

In Tamil Nadu, cardiovascular disease ranks among the top causes of mortality, representing roughly 36% of deaths for individuals aged 30‑69. Recent figures show a 12.5% annual rise in heart‑related fatalities. The increasing impact of heart disease and its disabling effects highlights the need to continually enhance care for ST‑elevation myocardial infarction (Heart Attack), the most serious form of heart attack.

The American Heart Association’s Comprehensive Chest Pain Center Certification is granted to hospitals that satisfy or surpass stringent quality benchmarks for managing heart‑attack patients. It honors healthcare facilities that excel in rapid heart‑attack diagnosis and the delivery of cutting‑edge treatment.

A Comprehensive Chest Pain Center possesses the skilled staff, facilities, and cutting‑edge technology needed to deliver swift care to heart‑attack patients, including Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI), a life‑saving procedure that restores coronary blood flow. Certified centers must also uphold evidence‑based protocols, pursue ongoing quality improvement, and ensure coordinated care for anyone arriving with chest pain.

“Worldwide, heart disease remains the leading cause of death – when a heart attack occurs, time is critical,” said the incoming co‑chair of the American Heart Association’s International Committee. “Hospitals and health‑care providers must be ready to coordinate care swiftly and efficiently. We created the Comprehensive Chest Pain Center Certification to enable hospitals to adopt an integrated, collaborative approach to cardiovascular care, improve outcomes for those with heart disease, and deliver certified care to both heart‑attack and non‑heart‑attack patients.”

Through this certification initiative, the American Heart Association aims to markedly lower cardiac deaths by raising public awareness of heart‑attack symptoms, promoting prompt medical response, shortening delays to life‑saving treatment, and enhancing the precision and effectiveness of care.

Dr. Sundar Ramakrishnan, Managing Trustee, SNR Sons Charitable Trust, said, “This certification marks a major milestone in Sri Ramakrishna Hospital’s ongoing growth and a proud achievement for our Cardiology Department. It reflects our dedication to building a healthcare system that blends advanced technology, clinical excellence, and global quality standards. Our priority is to guarantee that every patient receives prompt, evidence‑based cardiac care of the highest caliber.”
