Over 2.28 Lakh Modaks Ordered on Swiggy

MUMBAI: Swiggy, India’s leading convenience platform, revealed that the recent Ganesh Utsav celebrations were marked by a significant enthusiasm for modaks, with customers ordering over 2.28 lakh modaks on the platform during the festive period.

A week-long celebration

The demand for modaks remained consistently high throughout the festivities. Orders on the Swiggy platform saw a remarkable increase, from 29,674 on August 26 to a peak of 1,02,045 on Ganesh Chaturthi, August 27, indicating a 35% rise compared to the previous year’s celebrations.

Maharashtra leads the modak trends as India comes together to celebrate

Maharashtra emerged as the hub for modak enthusiasts, with Mumbai accounting for 69,240 orders and Pune for 30,433. Other cities in Maharashtra, including Nagpur, Nashik, and Amravati, also witnessed a significant number of orders.

While Mumbai and Pune topped the national charts during the festive week, Bengaluru secured the third position, followed by Delhi and Kolkata. Emerging cities like Nashik, Vadodara, Surat, Dehradun, and Patna also joined in the celebrations, showcasing the widespread popularity of modaks.

The evolution of modaks

As revealed by Swiggy’s data, the traditional Ukadiche Modak remained a favorite in Maharashtra, while Mawa and Kesar Modaks gained popularity across the country, highlighting the blend of tradition and convenience in modern celebrations.

Nationally, Mawa Modak emerged as the top choice, with 8,742 orders, followed by Kesar Modak, Coconut Modak, Ukadiche Modak, and Kaju Modak. In Maharashtra, Ukadiche Modak led with 4,460 orders, followed by Mawa and Malai, with smaller pack sizes like Mawa Modak (2 pcs) also gaining traction with 2,983 orders.
