In a main declare, the South Korean army stated that its North Korean counterparts fired a number of short-range ballistic missiles towards the East Sea on Monday (March 18, 2024).

The firing was finished by North Korea at a time when US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in South Korea for a multilateral ministerial convention.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) advised Yonhap information company that it detected the missile launches within the space of Pyongyang between 7:44 a.m. and eight:22 a.m., which flew round 300 kilometers and landed within the East Sea.

“North Korea fired at the very least three missiles, and their trajectories have been much like these of KN-24,” a senior army official stated.

According to South Korea media, the KN-24 is a solid-fuel ballistic missile with a variety of as much as 410 km and a payload of 400-500 kg.

The South Korean army advised Yonhap it instantly detected and tracked the missiles, and shared the data with the US and Japanese authorities, whereas a complete evaluation is underway.

“We strongly condemn North Korea’s newest missile launch, which is a transparent provocation that severely threatens peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula,” the JCS stated.

The newest missile was launched only a month after North Korea fired a brand new surface-to-sea cruise missile named Padasuri-6 from its east coast on February 14.
