British Indian commentator’s Christmas-in-Delhi video sparks debate online

The comment section of a post celebrating India’s diversity was left divided after a British broadcaster and social commentator of Indian-origin, put out a video.
Narinder Kaur recently posted a video on X from New Delhi, which showed the Indian capital city celebrating Christmas. While India comprises of only 2.3 per cent Christians (as per the 2011 national census), the country decks up during the Christmas season, with elaborate celebrations across the nation.
This surprised Kaur, who put out a video, comparing celebrating minority festivals in the UK and India.
Around 2% of the population of India is Christian, yet they are celebrating Xmas like its the majority! Its amazing! Respectful.

“Hey guys, so I’m in Delhi now and what I’ve noticed is everywhere I’ve gone, hotels, restaurants, they’re celebrating Christmas big time in India. Now I think 2 per cent of the population of India is Christian, but they’re still celebrating, respecting,” she said.
“Turn that around, London, don’t get me wrong. In the UK, you know, Diwali, Eid, everything, we do everything there. The hotel staff here have got Santa hats on. Would you go to a hotel in London and they’d have on, say, a pag, which is what Sikh men wear, if there was a special Diwali, Indian Punjabi festival, or they wear a hat that the Muslims wear, would they do that out of respect?” she asked.
“But they’re doing that here in India and I think, and they’re doing that without any fear of, ‘they’re taking over’, no local here is saying, ‘oh my God, the Christians are taking over, white people are taking over’,” she added.
Her video has gone viral, accumulating over two million views and thousands of comments.
“The UK isn’t India. Hope that clears it up,” one X user commented. Another said, “I beg to differ we are very tolerant in the UK.”
A third user said: “A Christmas wish…, that your airline ticket was ‘one way’.”
Some comments also matched Kaur point of view.
“Well said and it shows fear and insecurity among many in the UK,” said one user.
Another said: “That’s nice, I didn’t know that.”
