Bajaj General Insurance, Swiss Re team up for commercial insurance in India

The collaboration will combine Bajaj General Insurance’s solid domestic footprint with Swiss Re Corporate Solutions’ worldwide risk expertise and commercial insurance strengths.

Bajaj General Insurance and Swiss Re Corporate Solutions have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to investigate a possible commercial insurance alliance in India.

The alliance aims to merge Bajaj General Insurance’s robust local market presence with Swiss Re Corporate Solutions’ international risk insight and commercial insurance capabilities.

The planned collaboration intends to use Swiss Re Corporate Solutions’ International Programmes platform to create tailored insurance products for India.

It will supply underwriting know‑how for key sectors driving India’s growth—such as high‑tech and manufacturing—and also offer global insurance programs for Indian firms operating overseas.

India’s position

“Multinational firms increasingly look for insurers that blend deep local know‑how with global reach and smooth cross‑border execution. India ranks as the fastest‑growing major commercial insurance market worldwide, and we are seeking fresh approaches to serve corporate clients in this vibrant market alongside Bajaj General Insurance,” Ivan Gonzalez, CEO of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, stated in a Thursday release.

“By uniting Bajaj General Insurance’s strong Indian foothold with Swiss Re Corporate Solutions’ worldwide network and commercial insurance know‑how, we intend to assist Indian firms wherever they operate and help multinational organisations manage risks efficiently in India,” said Tapan Singhel, MD & CEO of Bajaj General Insurance.

Swiss Re Corporate Solutions offers a broad range of risk solutions for businesses, from property insurance to specialized areas such as credit and surety, and also alternative risk transfer options like captives and parametric cover. Headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland—where it was established in 1863—the group maintains a global footprint of roughly 70 offices, including locations in Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
