Citigroup India said to hire Khurana to head commercial banking

Citigroup Inc.’s India division has appointed Ankur Khurana as its commercial banking head to expand services for mid-sized Indian companies amid rapid growth, according to sources familiar with the decision.

Khurana brings over 20 years of banking expertise, including her prior role as Standard Chartered Plc’s co-head of coverage for India and South Asia. She had been evaluating opportunities with multiple institutions before joining Citigroup, insiders stated privately.

The leadership position became vacant following veteran banker Bhanu Vohra’s July departure to join BDO’s Indian consulting practice.

Citibank declined official comment on the appointment, while Khurana didn’t respond to requests for statement.

India’s dealmaking momentum continues to strengthen, with notable increases in equity capital market activity and cross-border merger transactions. The mid-market sector presents significant potential as domestic firms accelerate operational scaling and international acquisitions.
