In a major push for financial inclusion, the Department of Posts (DoP) and the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) have partnered to distribute mutual funds through post offices.

The two entities signed a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during AMFI’s 30th Foundation Day Celebration in Mumbai.

The agreement will remain effective for three years—from August 22, 2025, to August 21, 2028—with options for renewal.

The MoU includes strict safeguards for investor data and service quality, establishing a new standard for operational excellence in India’s financial sector.

This historic collaboration introduces a novel service model, with India Post serving as a distributor to enable mutual fund investments via its vast postal network, particularly aiding rural and semi-urban populations.

According to the Ministry of Communications, the initiative seeks to expand mutual fund accessibility by capitalizing on the trust and reach of post offices nationwide.

As part of the agreement, DoP personnel will act as mutual fund distributors to boost adoption in underserved towns and rural areas where financial products have been less accessible.

India Post’s widespread rural and semi-urban presence is particularly crucial, given the lower awareness of mutual funds in these regions.

“This partnership reflects DoP’s dedication to financial inclusion, even in the most remote areas, while aligning with AMFI’s vision of a professional and investor-friendly mutual fund landscape in India,” stated an official release.

The MoU was signed by Manisha Bansal Badal, General Manager (Business Development), Department of Posts, and V.N. Chalasani, Chief Executive, AMFI, in the presence of Tuhin Kanta Pandey, Chairman, SEBI.

Key Changes Made:

  • Reorganized sentences for better flow while keeping core information intact.
  • Shortened some phrases without losing meaning (e.g., “a significant step towards” → “a major push for”).
  • Maintained all HTML tags (paragraphs, strong tags, image, and line breaks).
  • Improved readability with clearer wording (e.g., “marks the beginning of a new service model” → “introduces a novel service model”).
