In August, equity mutual funds recorded a cash inflow of Rs 33,430.37 crore, as per data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) on Wednesday.
Actively managed equity funds saw varied inflows, with large-cap funds receiving Rs 2,834.88 crore, mid-cap funds attracting Rs 5,330.62 crore, and small-cap funds securing Rs 4,992.90 crore, according to the report.
Flexi-cap funds posted an inflow of Rs 7,679.40 crore, slightly higher than the Rs 7,654 crore recorded in the previous month.
In comparison, July’s inflows for large-cap, mid-cap, and small-cap funds were Rs 2,125.09 crore, Rs 5,182.49 crore, and Rs 6,484.43 crore, respectively.
Gold ETFs witnessed a significant surge in investments, rising from around Rs 1,200 crore in July to nearly Rs 7,200 crore in August.
“This trend reflects both profit-booking by investors and fresh allocations from those concerned about missing market opportunities,” said Suranjana Borthakhur, Head of Distribution and Strategic Alliances, Mirae Asset Investment Managers (India).
August 2025 marked the 54th consecutive month of positive equity inflows, despite a month-on-month decline.
However, the mutual fund industry’s total assets under management (AUM) dipped marginally to Rs 75.18 lakh crore from Rs 74.41 lakh crore in June and Rs 75.35 lakh crore in July.
“The broader market has shown a 2-3% rally over the past month, yet mutual fund flows slowed quarter-on-quarter,” Viraj Gandhi, CEO of Samco Mutual Fund, commented on the AMFI data.
“Net flows dropped from Rs 42,702 crore in July to Rs 33,430 crore in August, which is unexpected. Even so, the industry’s 12-month average inflows (August 2024–August 2025) remained steady at Rs 33,000 crore,” he added.
Notably, equity mutual funds had witnessed an 81% surge in inflows in July, climbing to Rs 42,702 crore from Rs 23,587 crore in June.
