China Unveils Massive Domestic AI Computing System in Trial Phase
China is currently testing its most powerful domestically developed AI computing infrastructure at a node in Zhengzhou, Henan province. The system integrates three Sugon scaleX platforms equipped with more than 30,000 AI acceleration cards, collectively delivering an estimated 15 exaflops of computing power.
Sugon, a publicly traded Chinese supercomputing company, designed the hardware. For perspective, the world’s fastest publicly recognized supercomputer, El Capitan, achieves 1.8 exaflops by comparison.
The node features an open architecture, supporting both multiple Chinese accelerator brands and compatibility with Nvidia’s CUDA ecosystem. This trial underscores China’s broader strategy to lead in hyperscale AI infrastructure, competing with domestic tech giants like Baidu and Alibaba.
