Fei-Fei Li’s World Labs Targets $5 Billion Valuation Amid $500 Million Funding Talks
AI visionary Fei-Fei Li is nearing a deal to secure hundreds of millions in fresh funding for her startup, World Labs, which is developing groundbreaking “large world models” capable of helping AI systems navigate and make decisions in three-dimensional spaces. The proposed $500 million investment round could value the company at $5 billion—a significant jump from its $1 billion valuation during a $230 million raise in 2024.
The funding discussions involve prominent backers such as Andreessen Horowitz, NEA, Radical Ventures, Nvidia’s venture arm, Sanabil Investments, Temasek Holdings, and notable figures including Google DeepMind’s Jeff Dean, actor Ashton Kutcher, and AI pioneer Geoffrey Hinton. Though terms are still evolving, Li has emphasized her strategic approach to selecting investors aligned with her vision of advancing spatial intelligence beyond the text-based models that power tools like ChatGPT.
From Visionary Databases to 3D Intelligence
Li—renowned as a foundational figure in AI for creating ImageNet, the 15-million-image database that revolutionized computer vision in 2006—now co-directs Stanford University’s Human-Centered AI Institute while leading World Labs. The company’s flagship product, Marble, launched in late 2025, generates interactive 3D environments from simple text or image prompts. This places World Labs at the forefront of investor interest in multimodal AI systems that surpass traditional language models.
Competition Heats Up in Spatial AI
World Labs enters a fast-evolving field alongside ventures like Yann LeCun’s AMI Labs, which recently attracted valuation interest of $3.5 billion from Cathay Innovation. Venture capital firms are increasingly betting on “world models” as the next frontier for AI applications in robotics, gaming, and autonomous systems. While details of World Labs’ funding round remain unconfirmed, the talks underscore how pioneers like Li continue to command premium valuations as AI pivots from chatbots to systems capable of understanding and interacting with complex environments.
