Adani Airport’s ₹136-Crore luxury hotel project at Thiruvananthapuram Airport gets environmental clearance

The Union Environment Ministry has approved a ₹136-crore luxury hospitality project by Adani Airport Holdings Limited at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. Authorities confirmed on Tuesday that the Expert Appraisal Committee (Infra-2) conducted a rigorous evaluation during its August session before granting clearance. Spanning over 8,000 square meters within airport premises, the development will feature a 240-key property with dining facilities accommodating 660 guests.

Official records indicate the designated area currently functions as an open parking zone under Adani Group’s management. This land transfer followed a long-term concession agreement executed between the company’s aviation division and Airports Authority of India in January 2021.

The planned five-level structure will rise to 23 meters, featuring two basement parking tiers, ground-level facilities, and four upper stories. Construction will encompass approximately 34,000 square meters of built space. Project plans include utilizing treated wastewater from an onsite treatment facility, aiming to fulfil 50% of daily water needs through recycling.

An organic waste conversion system and certified recyclers will manage solid waste disposal. The development will relocate 40 existing trees within airport grounds while dedicating space for green belts. Energy efficiency initiatives target a 20% reduction in power consumption.

Environmental regulators confirmed the site lies outside protected ecological zones or forest lands, with no ongoing legal disputes. Clearance was processed centrally following the temporary non-operation of Kerala’s State Environment Impact Assessment Authority.

Scheduled for completion within three years, the ₹136-crore venture is projected to generate 300 direct employment positions while supporting approximately 900 indirect jobs. Officials anticipate enhanced traveler services and tourism growth from the development.

Sources indicate this premium property forms part of Adani’s comprehensive ‘City Side Development’ strategy for Thiruvananthapuram. The facility aims to serve air passengers alongside international maritime crews arriving at the group-operated Vizhinjam seaport.
