Emirates and Marriott International, Inc. have announced a partnership to launch Emirates Wolgan Valley, a Ritz-Carlton Lodge, a 40-key all-inclusive luxury retreat situated within a 7,000-acre conservancy in Australia’s Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage area.

This development will mark the inaugural Ritz-Carlton Lodge globally and represents a significant advancement for New South Wales’ regional tourism. Designed as sanctuaries intentionally integrated into natural landscapes, these lodges prioritize minimal environmental impact while delivering the hallmark luxury, comfort, and craftsmanship of The Ritz-Carlton brand.

Scheduled to open in mid-2026, the project aims to elevate luxury travel standards and revitalize the region’s tourism sector.

Emirates has invested AU$150 million in the Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort since 2006, emphasizing environmental stewardship and cultural preservation. Restoration efforts included heritage landmarks like the 1832 homestead and conservation programs restoring indigenous ecosystems with over one million native trees planted. An additional AU$50 million is now earmarked for renovations in collaboration with Marriott to align the property with The Ritz-Carlton’s renowned service and design ethos while honoring the location’s unique character.

Despite the closure of Wolgan Valley Road in 2023, Emirates sustained the site with local staff. The company has maintained strong ties with the Wolgan Valley community and anticipates creating nearly 150 local jobs upon reopening, alongside expanded opportunities for regional suppliers.

Access to the lodge will be provided via four-wheel drive through the Donkey Steps—integrated into the rural adventure experience—or by helicopter.

Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline, stated, “Through three decades in Australia, Emirates has continually invested in meaningful partnerships and community initiatives. Our enduring commitment to Emirates Wolgan Valley is exemplified by this collaboration with Marriott International to introduce the world’s first Ritz-Carlton Lodge. This venture will not only attract discerning travelers but also stimulate economic revitalization in Wolgan Valley. We appreciate the support from all levels of government and the local community.”

Rajeev Menon, President, Asia Pacific excluding China, Marriott International, commented, “This collaboration aligns the world’s largest international airline with a global hospitality leader, elevating New South Wales’ luxury tourism. The lodge will captivate Marriott Bonvoy’s 260 million members seeking immersive, nature-connected experiences.”

Nestled within a 7,000-acre reserve, the lodge occupies less than 2% of the protected wilderness, offering seclusion amidst UNESCO-listed landscapes. Guests will encounter rare flora like the Wollemi Pine and native wildlife while enjoying bespoke experiences curated by local experts.

Tourism Research Australia notes regional NSW welcomed 15.5 million domestic visitors in the September 2025 quarter (AU$5.9 billion spend) and 727,300 international visitors (AU$1.2 billion spend), reflecting robust demand for premium nature escapes.

The lodge will feature 40 freestanding villas with private pools, a signature restaurant showcasing Australian produce, a wine cellar, wellness facilities including The Ritz-Carlton Spa, and a unique “sleep-out” experience—guiding guests into remote wilderness for stargazing and campfire dining.
