Hyatt Expands Italy Portfolio With Three New Hotels Across Rome And Sicily

Hyatt Hotels Corporation reiterated its dedication to growing its footprint in Italy by announcing three upcoming hotels that will contribute 428 rooms and suites nationwide. This move aligns with Italy’s rising status as a top European tourism destination, where the World Travel & Tourism Council projects international visitor expenditure to hit €78 billion by 2035.

At present, Hyatt manages 170 properties spanning 19 brands throughout Europe, with six of those representing five brands in Italy—situated in Milan, Venice, Rome, Florence and Sardinia. Since 2019, the brand’s room count in Italy has quadrupled, and it aims to launch over 40 more hotels across Europe in the near future.

These new openings will bolster Hyatt’s footprint in the upper‑upscale, lifestyle and luxury sectors and extend its conversion approach in Italy’s most sought‑after locations. Moreover, they will debut the Hyatt Regency and Thompson Hotels brands in Italy and expand the Park Hyatt offering from Milan into Sicily.

Hyatt Regency Rome Central, slated to open at the close of Q3 2026, will sit near Rome’s Termini station and serve both business and leisure guests. The 238‑room hotel will offer a rooftop pool, Pool Bar, meeting spaces and Niroma, an Asian‑inspired restaurant, marking the first Hyatt Regency property in Italy.

Thompson Rome, set to debut in Q4 2026, will bring Hyatt’s lifestyle brand to Italy. Housed in a renovated historic building close to the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Piazza Venezia, the 69‑room hotel will provide three dining options, among them a sixth‑floor Italian Riviera‑style restaurant and a rooftop cocktail bar.

Adding to Hyatt’s luxury collection, Park Hyatt Taormina is planned for a 2028 opening in Sicily. The 121‑suite resort will be Italy’s second Park Hyatt after Milan, offering private terraces with views of the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna, locally sourced dining and a full‑service spa.

Commenting on the expansion, Nuno Galvao Pinto, Vice President of Development for Europe, Africa and the Middle East (EAME) at Hyatt, noted, “Italy represents a key growth market for Hyatt, combining robust travel demand with a sizable inventory of independent hotels. Owners looking to affiliate or convert benefit from Hyatt’s global distribution, booking platforms and access to over 66 million World of Hyatt members, generating strong network effects as our Italian footprint expands.”

He added, “With the expected launches of Hyatt Regency Rome Central and Thompson Rome this summer, followed by the planned Park Hyatt Taormina opening in 2028, we aim to provide travelers with additional Hyatt‑branded choices in Rome and Sicily.”
