Meliá Hotels International Announces Nine New Openings Across Malta And Gozo

Meliá Hotels International has revealed plans to significantly expand its presence in Malta and Gozo with nine new properties scheduled to open within the next three years. This strategic growth initiative, developed alongside Agius Group’s hospitality division Blue Clay Collection, aims to enhance Malta’s appeal as a premier luxury travel destination in Europe.

Each hotel will embrace unique local characteristics, ranging from the revitalization of historic buildings in Valletta to the conversion of traditional townhouses in Victoria, Gozo’s principal town. Gozo, renowned for its serene landscapes and cultural traditions, will welcome several properties under The Meliá Collection, INNSiDE by Meliá, Affiliated by Meliá, and Meliá Hotels and Resorts brands. The expansion follows the recent debut of Hotel Ben Marsalforn Affiliated by Meliá, which opened in November 2025 near Marsalforn Bay’s coastal attractions.

The Meliá Collection will introduce distinctive boutique hotels in Valletta’s UNESCO World Heritage Site and two locations on Gozo – the town of Victoria and the village of San Lawrenz. These properties will highlight local heritage while catering to travelers seeking culturally immersive luxury experiences.

Through its Affiliated by Meliá program, the group will incorporate independent properties in Gozo’s villages of Għarb, Qala, and Ghajnsielem into its network. These intimate accommodations will provide direct access to the island’s festivals, outdoor activities, and traditional community life.

INNSiDE by Meliá will bring contemporary accommodation to Buġibba’s coastal area in spring 2026, catering to travelers who combine work and leisure. Additionally, a 300-room Meliá Hotels & Resorts property will anchor the St. Julian’s area, reflecting the brand’s signature approach to hospitality.

“Malta and Gozo embody the Mediterranean qualities that resonate with our brand vision,” stated Gabriel Escarrer, Chairman & CEO of Meliá Hotels International. “This project demonstrates our commitment to Mediterranean resorts and creating authentic travel experiences that respect local identity while delivering our renowned service standards.”

A representative from Agius Group commented, “Our collaboration with Meliá represents an opportunity to revitalize Malta’s urban centers through heritage-sensitive developments that meet international hospitality expectations. This partnership elevates the islands’ tourism profile through globally recognized brands.”

Several properties will feature dedicated event facilities to support Malta’s growing conference and meetings industry.
