Choice Hotels International revealed a leadership change, noting that Patrick Pacious will depart from his role as President and Chief Executive Officer after close to 21 years with the firm, having served as CEO since 2017.
Pacious will remain available to assist with the transition in an advisory role until August 31, 2026.
The Board of Directors has named Dominic Dragisich, presently serving as Chief Growth & Strategy Officer, as Interim Chief Executive Officer effective May 20, 2026.
Choice Hotels announced that the Board will launch a thorough search, working with a top executive‑search firm, to find the next CEO, evaluating both internal and external prospects.
Throughout Pacious’ time at the helm, Choice Hotels experienced considerable growth and transformation across its worldwide portfolio and operations.
Under his guidance, the brand count rose from 11 to 22, and the company bolstered its upscale and extended‑stay footprint via acquisitions such as WoodSpring Suites and Radisson Hotels Americas.
The firm also sped up its international direct franchising platform, rolled out franchise‑centric digital and technology initiatives, and more than doubled adjusted EBITDA over that span.
Pacious remarked, “Leading Choice Hotels has been the greatest honor of my career. Together we have crafted a superior‑quality hotel portfolio, a more accretive and diverse pipeline, and a capital‑light approach that positions the Company to seize upcoming opportunities. Having established the groundwork for a customer‑focused, AI‑driven enterprise in line with our long‑term strategy, the moment is right for a new leader to steer Choice Hotels into its next growth phase. I am eager to collaborate with the Board, Dom, and the full leadership team to ensure a seamless transition.”
Stewart W. Bainum, Jr., Chairman of the Board of Directors for Choice Hotels International, commented, “Pat’s leadership has helped shape a new era for Choice Hotels. Through strategic acquisitions, disciplined portfolio growth, international expansion, and an unwavering focus on franchisee success, Choice has evolved into a more resilient and diversified organization. On behalf of the Board, the Bainum family, and fellow shareholders, we thank Pat for his leadership, vision, and numerous contributions.”
Bainum added, “Choice Hotels is now a stronger entity with a solid operational and financial base, a capable leadership team, and considerable long‑term growth prospects. The Board has full confidence in Dom’s leadership and the Company’s ongoing momentum while we undertake a thorough search for Choice’s next CEO.”
Prior to his appointment as Chief Growth and Strategy Officer, Dragisich held the roles of Executive Vice President, Operations and Chief Global Brand Officer, and also served as Chief Financial Officer from 2017 to 2023.
Dragisich has played a key role in guiding the Company’s strategic evolution, overseeing transformative acquisitions and other major growth initiatives aimed at boosting long‑term value.
“I am honored to assume the Interim CEO role and look forward to building on the Company’s strong foundation. We remain committed to delivering long‑term value for our franchisees and shareholders while creating great experiences for our guests and associates,” said Dragisich.
