AlUla Development Company commences construction on NUMAJ, Autograph Collection

AlUla Development Company (UDC), a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund, has begun building NUMAJ, Autograph Collection, representing a significant step in AlUla’s continual development.
The groundbreaking was celebrated during a site visit featuring John Pagano, Managing Director of UDC, Abeer AlAkel, CEO of the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU), and other senior leaders.
NUMAJ signifies a clear advancement in our delivery plan. As construction gets underway, our priority is to deliver high‑quality, investment‑ready projects that bolster AlUla’s standing, while crafting unique hospitality experiences that enhance its long‑term appeal as a premier global destination and thriving community.
The commencement of construction moves NUMAJ from the design phase to actual build‑out, further highlighting UDC’s function as the development and investment driver turning AlUla’s masterplan into concrete, world‑class assets, working hand‑in‑hand with RCU.
NUMAJ, a 250‑room hotel slated to open in 2027, is being developed by AlUla Development Company and will be managed by Marriott International under the Autograph Collection banner. Created by GioForma, the firm behind the renowned Maraya, the design takes cues from AlUla’s natural scenery, cultural legacy, and astronomical heritage. The name ‘NUMAJ’ originates from the star system Nu Ursae Majoris, which historically guided ancient travelers to AlUla. This story informs a design philosophy centered on exploration, illumination, and a strong bond with the land.
The project will provide a curated hospitality experience that mixes upscale resort living with immersive cultural and lifestyle offerings. Guests will find thoughtfully crafted spaces that echo AlUla’s character, complemented by amenities such as five restaurants, wellness facilities, and blended business‑leisure services.
Sustainability lies at the heart of NUMAJ, which aims for LEED Gold certification. Eco‑friendly measures include greywater recycling for irrigation, use of locally sourced materials, UV‑resistant glazing, water‑wise landscaping, and energy‑efficient lighting that complies with AlUla’s Dark Sky initiative.
