The 2025 economic reforms mark a significant shift toward outcome-focused governance, streamlining processes for citizens and businesses while improving transparency and efficiency. These measures aim to create sustainable and inclusive economic expansion.

Tax simplification, modernized labor regulations, strengthened MSME support, rural job creation, and digital payment innovations collectively enhance trust, economic resilience, and international competitiveness according to official sources.

A major highlight of the Union Budget 2025-26 included substantial direct tax relief, exempting annual incomes below ₹12 lakh from income tax under the new system. Including standard deductions, salaried individuals effectively enjoy exemption limits up to ₹12.75 lakh, increasing disposable income for middle-class households nationwide.

July 2024 saw a comprehensive revision of the Income-tax Act, 1961, culminating in the New Income Tax Act, 2025. This landmark legislation modernized language, eliminated outdated clauses, and restructured compliance frameworks. Key features include digital-first administration, faceless assessment systems, consolidated TDS provisions, and strengthened dispute resolution mechanisms.

Labor reforms consolidated 29 existing statutes into four comprehensive codes addressing wages, industrial relations, social security, and occupational safety. This framework improves business operations while expanding protections for women, migrant workers, and gig economy participants – nearly 10 million platform workers now receive annual social security coverage.

The Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025 modernized rural employment guarantees, replacing MGNREGA with enhanced livelihood security. The revised program increases guaranteed wage employment from 100 to 125 days per rural household annually, integrating job creation with community development projects.

Quality assurance measures underwent significant adjustments with phased implementation of Quality Control Orders (QCOs). The Bureau of Indian Standards now offers MSME concessions through waived marking fees, optional laboratory requirements, flexible testing procedures, and publicly accessible certification guidelines.

Transformative GST revisions simplified the tax structure into two primary slabs (5% and 18%), reducing compliance burdens and classification disputes. Rate reductions on essentials, healthcare products, educational materials, and housing inputs lower consumer costs while combating inflation.

A new ₹25,060 crore Export Promotion Mission will drive trade competitiveness from FY2025-26 through FY2030-31. This unified framework transitions from fragmented schemes to integrated financial support (including trade finance access) and non-financial assistance covering quality compliance, branding, logistics, and market penetration strategies.
