Gujarat becomes India’s largest contributor to renewable energy capacity with 16.5 pc share

Gandhinagar, Jan 31: Gujarat now leads India in renewable energy capacity, contributing 16.5% of the nation’s total. Recent data reveals the state’s renewable power installations have reached 42.583 GW as of December 2025.
This achievement positions Gujarat at the vanguard of India’s clean energy transition, aligning with national targets of 50% electricity from renewables by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2070.
Under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s leadership, Gujarat ranks first among Indian states for total renewable capacity and wind power generation, while holding second position in solar energy contributions.
The state’s renewable portfolio includes 14,820.94 MW from wind energy and 25,529.40 MW from solar power. Hybrid and off-grid systems account for the remaining capacity. Gujarat is also the national leader in rooftop solar adoption, with over 1.1 million installations generating 6,412.80 MW across sectors.
State officials highlight that Gujarat represents more than 25% of India’s total rooftop solar implementations. This includes 2,073.65 MW under the Surya Gujarat initiative, 1,913 MW through PM Surya Ghar Yojana, and 2,267.04 MW from various other schemes.
Gujarat’s solar infrastructure comprises 17,771.21 MW ground-mounted projects, 6,412.80 MW rooftops, 1,172.38 MW hybrid installations, and 173.01 MW off-grid systems under PM KUSUM and similar programs. Operational solar parks at Charanka (749 MW), Radhanesda (700 MW), and Dholera (300 MW) further bolster this capacity.
The Khavda Renewable Energy Park in Kutch district, with a planned 37.35 GW capacity, has already commissioned 11.33 GW, positioning it as the world’s largest renewable energy park currently under development.
Wind energy distribution shows Kutch dominating with 7,476.73 MW, followed by Jamnagar (1,867.65 MW), Devbhumi Dwarka (1,281.26 MW), with other regions contributing progressively lower capacities. The state has added 2,398.77 MW through wind-solar hybrid projects under various policies.
Chief Minister Patel stated the state’s renewable expansion demonstrates “consistent policy alignment and effective execution.” Industry analysis suggests these projects have created approximately 237,000 direct and indirect jobs statewide.
With 5,203 renewable projects underway—including 4,992 solar (32.22 GW), 72 wind (15 GW), and 139 hybrid (21.15 GW) installations—Gujarat aims to achieve 105 GW renewable capacity by 2030. This would constitute nearly 20% of India’s overall 500 GW non-fossil fuel target.
