IDFC FIRST Bank posted a 132% year‑on‑year increase in Q1FY27 net profit, rising to ₹1,075 crore from ₹463 crore a year earlier, driven by solid growth in net interest and other income together with lower provisions.
To preserve strong capital ratios and retain flexibility for market funding, the bank’s board approved on Saturday raising up to ₹7,500 crore via equity securities and up to ₹12,500 crore through debt or other eligible instruments.
During the quarter, net interest income — the gap between interest earned and interest paid — grew 21% year‑on‑year to ₹5,972 crore, up from ₹4,933 crore in Q1FY26.
Other income, comprising fees, treasury gains and recoveries on written‑off loans, rose 23% y‑o‑y to ₹2,128 crore from ₹1,731 crore.
Net interest margin improved to 5.96% in Q1FY27, compared with 5.71% in the same quarter last year.
Gross NPAs fell to 1.51% of advances at end‑June 2026 from 1.97% a year earlier, while net NPAs declined to 0.44% of net advances versus 0.55% previously.
Loan book expanded 20.6% year‑on‑year to ₹3,05,370 crore by end‑June 2026, and customer deposits grew 16.6% to ₹2,99,405 crore over the same period.
V. Vaidyanathan, MD & CEO, remarked, “We are witnessing strong business momentum; asset quality keeps improving with gross NPA at 1.51% and net NPA at 0.44%. Provisions as a share of loans are steadily falling.”
“In this quarter we received a CGFMU (Credit Guarantee Fund for Micro Units) claim of ₹515 crore and set aside an equal provision of ₹515 crore as a precaution against possible monsoon‑ or fuel‑price‑related shocks later in the year.”
