Indian travellers can now use UPI at QR-code merchants in Cambodia.

The RBI announced UPI payment connectivity between India and Cambodia, letting Indian travelers pay via QR code at over 4.5 million KHQR‑accepting merchants in Cambodia.

The Reserve Bank of India announced that the UPI‑QR code linkage between India and Cambodia went live on June 2, 2026 in Phnom Penh.

This launch is the first phase of the partnership between NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) and Acleda Bank Plc., supported by the RBI and the National Bank of Cambodia, to allow interoperable QR‑based person‑to‑merchant payments across the two nations.

“Indian visitors to Cambodia can now use their UPI apps to scan QR codes and pay at more than 4.5 million KHQR‑enabled merchants,” the RBI said. “The service provides real‑time, secure merchant payments, lessening reliance on cash and offering a card‑alternative.”

A second phase will later allow Cambodian travelers to use UPI QR codes for payments in India.

In its most recent annual report, the RBI said work continues to extend UPI’s global reach by linking it with other countries’ fast‑payment systems for cross‑border remittances and merchant payments.

Besides Cambodia, UPI acceptance for QR‑code‑based merchants is operational in Bhutan, France, Mauritius, Nepal, Qatar, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and the UAE.
