Life Insurance Corporation of India registered a 23% rise in net profit for the March quarter, reaching ₹23,467 crore compared with ₹19,039 crore in the same period a year earlier.

The insurer also declared a 1‑for‑1 bonus share issue and a pre‑bonus dividend of ₹10 per share.

LIC’s premium income grew 12% to ₹165,067 crore (₹147,917 crore), while new‑business premium rose 17% to ₹13,009 crore (₹11,103 crore).

Renewal and single‑premium premiums amounted to ₹82,233 crore (₹79,425 crore) and ₹70,119 crore (₹57,694 crore) respectively.

Investment income climbed to ₹109,211 crore (₹93,443 crore).

The solvency ratio — a gauge of an insurer’s financial strength — improved to 2.35% this quarter, up from 2.11% a year ago and 2.19% in the previous quarter. However, the 13th‑month persistency ratio fell to 67.77%, down from 68.62% a year earlier and 69.36% in the December quarter.

Assets under management increased 5% year‑on‑year to ₹57.3 lakh crore, and the value of new business surged 42% to ₹14,179 crore during the quarter, signalling better profitability from fresh business.

The company has been focusing on margin improvement and raising the share of non‑participating products to boost earnings quality.

In FY26, LIC posted its highest ever profit of ₹57,453 crore (₹48,320 crore) and premium income of ₹5,37,604 crore (₹4,89,775 crore).

R Doraiswamy, CEO & MD, LIC said the channel‑diversification strategy has paid off, with Banca and Alternate Channels growing over 45% and Banca premium exceeding ₹5,000 crore in FY26.

“Following regulatory guidance, we are preparing to adopt Indian Accounting Standards and are confident of implementation within the permissible time frames,” he added.

On the entry of foreign rivals, he noted that new players are inevitable in a dynamic market like India; as the market leader LIC will defend its share, although each policy sold by a newcomer will erode the incumbent’s share.

As the leading life insurer navigates the market, LIC expressed deep gratitude to nearly 200 million policyholders for their trust built over seven decades, he said.
