RBI MPC Meet 2026: Date, Time, Expectations & Live details

2 min read

The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will announce decisions from its inaugural 2026 meeting this Friday. Governor Sanjay Malhotra will lead the six-member committee in evaluating critical factors including interest rates, inflation targets, and economic growth forecasts.

This gathering follows the RBI’s December 2025 move to lower the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.25%, culminating in a total reduction of 125 basis points during 2025.

Date and Time

The three-day MPC session will convene from February 4-6, 2026. Policy decisions will be announced at 10:00 a.m. IST on February 6, followed by Governor Malhotra’s press briefing at 12:00 noon IST.

Expectations

Analysts foresee the MPC maintaining current interest rates amid persistent global economic instability, government bond yield pressures, and currency volatility. Both State Bank of India and Nuvama Research anticipate continuation of the existing repo rate and neutral policy stance.

GDP & Inflation

December projections revised GDP growth upward by 50 basis points to 7.3%, while maintaining FY26 inflation estimates at 2%. The recent Economic Survey forecasts 7.4% real GDP growth for FY26 and 6.8-7.2% for FY27. December 2025’s CPI inflation stood at 1.33% compared to December 2024.
