SBI MF launches Magnum Equity Ex-top 100 Long Short fund

The aim of the approach is to achieve long‑term growth by investing in companies not ranked among the top 100 by market size

SBI Mutual Fund, India’s biggest fund manager, will introduce its second offering under the Specialised Investment Fund framework, named Magnum Equity Ex‑Top 100 Long‑Short Fund.

Key Takeaways

  • SBI Mutual Fund launched Magnum Equity Ex-Top 100 Long-Short Fund, its second Specialised Investment Fund offering.
  • The open-ended scheme invests in stocks beyond the top 100 by market cap, with limited short exposure via derivatives.
  • Subscription for the fund opens August 7.
  • MD & CEO Debasish Mishra said the fund’s systematic long-short structure expands SBI’s product lineup.

This open‑ended scheme will allocate to equity and related securities, with a modest short position taken via derivatives on non‑large‑cap stocks. Subscription opens on August 7.

Its goal is to deliver long‑term capital growth by holding stocks beyond the top 100 by market cap, employing a limited short exposure via derivatives to boost returns and control risk.

Debasish Mishra, MD & CEO of SBI Funds Management, noted that the fund’s focus on companies outside the top 100, combined with its systematic long‑short structure, expands the product line to meet investors’ varied and evolving needs.

Enduring Value

“Our focus stays on crafting careful, well‑designed strategies that deliver lasting value while keeping pace with the shifting investment environment,” he remarked.

The plan will mainly allocate to equity and related securities, REITs, debt and money‑market instruments, InvITs, and gold‑ and silver‑ETFs. Gold exposure via mutual‑fund units from the same or another AMC will be capped at 5 % of the strategy’s net asset value.

New participants in Magnum SIF must invest at least ₹10 lakhs, in increments of ₹1. Current investors need a minimum of ₹1,00,000 per application, also in ₹1 steps. The scheme’s benchmark is the BSE 500 TRI.

Gaurav Mehta, CFA, Head of SIF Equity, will oversee the Magnum Equity Ex‑Top 100 Long‑Short Fund; he also runs the firm’s other SIF product, the Magnum Hybrid Long‑Short Fund.
