According to the figures released on Saturday, the number of UPI transactions in July stood at 23.66 billion, surpassing 23.2 billion in May and 22.72 billion in June.

The transaction value amounted to ₹29.88 lakh crore in July, compared with ₹25.08 lakh crore a year earlier, reflecting a 19 % year‑on‑year increase.

“UPI continues to bolster India’s digital payments foundation. In July 2026 it processed 23.66 billion transactions worth Rs 29.88 lakh crore, confirming its status as the preferred payment method for millions of Indians,” said Anand Kumar Bajaj, Managing Director and CEO of PayNearby.

He added that as UPI adoption expands, maintaining trust, awareness, and ease of use at the grassroots level remains crucial, ensuring that digital‑payment growth leads to broader and more meaningful financial inclusion across Bharat.

UPI is now operational in roughly ten countries, including the UAE, Singapore, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, France, Mauritius, and Qatar, positioning India as a global frontrunner in digital payments.

Its rising international uptake is enhancing remittances, fostering financial inclusion, and strengthening India’s standing in the worldwide fintech arena.

NPCI, a joint initiative of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Indian Banks’ Association, serves as the umbrella body for retail payment and settlement systems in India.

It operates the UPI platform that enables real‑time peer‑to‑peer and merchant‑side payments.
