The Electronics Development Fund (EDF) has invested Rs 257.77 crore in eight Daughter Funds, empowering tech startups and generating over 23,600 jobs across India, as announced by the government.

These EDF-backed Daughter Funds have allocated Rs 1,335.77 crore across 128 startups, fostering the creation or acquisition of 368 intellectual property (IP) assets, according to an official release.

EDF typically holds a minority stake in each Daughter Fund, incentivizing increased private investment and professional fund management practices.

The supported startups operate in cutting-edge domains including Internet of Things (IoT), Robotics, Drone Technology, Autonomous Vehicles, HealthTech, Cybersecurity, and AI/ML, establishing India as a global center for technological advancement.

Among the 128 funded startups, Daughter Funds have exited 37 investments, yielding returns worth Rs 173.88 crore.

By providing crucial risk capital, EDF has empowered startups developing next-generation technologies while strengthening India’s domestic design and IP creation ecosystem.

The Daughter Funds provide targeted financial support to innovative startups while granting Investment Managers full operational autonomy in fundraising, portfolio management, and performance oversight.

The initiative drives R&D in electronics, nano-electronics, and IT sectors through industry-aligned, market-responsive innovation.

Launched on February 15, 2016, EDF champions research, development, and entrepreneurship in electronics, nano-electronics, and IT domains.

The fund specifically strengthens India’s capabilities in Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) through indigenous technological development.

EDF also facilitates technology transfers and foreign acquisitions in high-import sectors, advancing self-sufficiency and reducing reliance on imports.
