IHCL signs Taj Dharamshala, expands luxury presence in Himachal Pradesh

IHCL has confirmed the agreement for Taj Dharamshala, a brownfield luxury hotel project in Himachal Pradesh that could be expanded later. This deal bolsters IHCL’s footprint in one of India’s rapidly expanding leisure markets.

Commenting on the development, Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President – Real Estate & Development at IHCL, noted, “Dharamshala’s spiritual appeal and growing tourism draw a varied visitor base. IHCL, recognized for its responsible approach to destination development, is extending its leisure offerings in Himachal Pradesh. We are delighted to collaborate with Atman Resort and Cottages LLP on this venture.”

The 105‑room Taj Dharamshala will command panoramic views of the valley and the snow‑capped Dhauladhar hills. Its design echoes the local hill character, with the historic White Haven Estate — once the Viceroy’s summer residence in the late 1800s — slated for restoration. Amenities include an all‑day dining venue, two specialty restaurants, a bar, and a lobby lounge. Guests can relax in the indoor temperature‑controlled pool, fitness centre, or the signature J Wellness Circle spa. For meetings and social events, the property provides a banquet hall, terrace, pre‑function areas, and fully equipped meeting rooms.

Situated in the foothills of the Dhauladhar range, Dharamshala ranks among India’s premier spiritual and leisure hubs. It hosts the Dalai Lama’s residence, the Namgyal Monastery, Bhagsu Waterfall, Dal Lake, and the renowned Triund trekking trail, drawing both domestic and international travellers year‑round.

Following the Taj Dharamshala agreement, IHCL’s Himachal Pradesh portfolio will rise to 27 hotels — 15 already operating and 12 in development — underscoring the group’s ongoing push to grow its luxury and leisure presence across India’s key tourism destinations.
