The U.S. Federal Reserve has named Marc Andreessen, co‑founder and general partner at Andreessen Horowitz, as co‑leader of one of five task forces tasked with reviewing and updating the central bank’s monetary‑policy framework, according to a Federal Reserve statement.
The Federal Reserve on Thursday disclosed the leaders and goals of the task forces, which will analyze core aspects of monetary policy and deliver independent recommendations to the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) as Chair Kevin Warsh works to bolster the Fed’s strategy in a fast‑evolving economic environment.
““The Federal Reserve’s dedication to price stability and full employment remains steadfast. Likewise, we are determined to fulfill our mandate with rigor,” stated Chairman Kevin Warsh, according to the release.”
Five expert panels to assess core monetary‑policy areas
The five task forces will be co‑chaired by external advisers—distinguished economists, business leaders, and former central‑bank officials. “Backed by Federal Reserve staff, they will work independently, guided by evidence, deliver frank feedback, and generate thorough findings for the Federal Open Market Committee,” the release noted.
According to the announcement, Andreessen will join the Productivity and Jobs task force alongside Stanford economist Charles I. Jones and Microsoft Executive Vice President and Xbox head Asha Sharma.
The panel will evaluate the economic effects of emerging general‑purpose technologies, such as artificial intelligence, to inform the Fed’s policy choices.
In addition to Productivity and Jobs, the Federal Reserve has set up task forces covering communications, balance‑sheet policy, data, and inflation frameworks.
Raghuram Rajan joins global experts on the advisory panels
Furthermore, the panels feature prominent global policymakers and economists such as former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan, former Bank of England Governor Mervyn King, Harvard economist Greg Mankiw, Nobel laureate Thomas Sargent, Harvard professor Raj Chetty, and former Central Bank of Brazil President Arminio Fraga.
““The U.S. economy has transformed markedly over the past generation, and especially today. Each task force will examine whether policymakers’ tools, methods and strategies can be enhanced. I am honored that leading experts across disciplines have agreed to collaborate with us to strengthen the Fed’s effectiveness. The aim is clear: to position the Federal Reserve to meet its goals in this pivotal era,” noted Warsh.”
