WestBridge Capital is reviewing possible actions regarding its holding in Star Health & Allied Insurance Co., such as a sale, as several prospective buyers have shown interest, sources said.
The private equity firm has engaged financial advisors to assess a potential divestment of its 40% share in the Chennai‑based insurer, sources requested anonymity due to the confidentiality of the discussions. Additional buyout firms and sector participants have expressed early interest in acquiring the stake, the sources added.
Star Health’s stock has risen close to 30% year‑to‑date, pushing its market capitalisation to roughly $3.5 billion.
The talks remain preliminary and no definitive agreement has been reached, the sources noted, adding that WestBridge may ultimately decide against proceeding with a transaction.
A spokesperson for WestBridge declined to provide comment.
Earlier, a news outlet reported that WestBridge had begun exploring an exit from its Star Health investment.
WestBridge acquired a controlling interest in Star Health in 2019 from the company’s founder, Venkatasamy Jagannathan.
Founded in 2006, Star Health offers health, personal accident, overseas and domestic travel insurance products, per its website.
